RELIEF WORK – UNDERWAY / COMPLETED
Projects Overview
We refer to each charity initiative as a separate project. While the term may sound somewhat clinical, it allows us to clearly track progress, logistics, and costs.
Full financial details can be found on the COSTS & FUNDING page.
Project 1 – Cotaganga Emergency Food Aid
Date: 29 November 2025
Work began immediately after the cyclone passed. A makeshift kitchen was set up in the Makuldeniya village hall.
With landslides blocking access to Rangala Town and Cotaganga, the first food delivery was made on foot before diggers could clear the roads.
It was a long, muddy trek, but the team did an outstanding job reaching those in need.
Meals delivered: ~300 ready-made meals

Project 2 – Rangala Town Food Distribution
Date: 30 November 2025
A second food distribution took place in Rangala Town.
This time, tuk-tuk access was possible, making the process considerably easier.
Meals delivered: ~150 ready-made meals

Project 3 – Cotaganga Emergency Food Aid (Second Delivery)
Date: 1 December 2025
A follow-up emergency food distribution to Cotaganga.
Meals delivered: ~200 ready-made meals

Senaratne, a local villager living about 2 km away, narrowly escaped tragedy when his home collapsed during the cyclone.
He, his wife, and their 3-year-old child managed to get out just in time, but almost everything they owned was destroyed.
A carpenter by trade, Senaratne lost his workshop and power tools. The family is currently staying with his brother.

The village now has running water restored.

Project 7 – Hunasgiriya Emergency Relief (Phase 1)

Hunasgiriya was one of the worst-affected towns, with widespread destruction.
Over 1,000 residents were relocated to government refugee centres, but some families remained behind, trying to recover.
Through Niro’s uncle (the local Grama Sevaka), urgent needs were identified.

Along the route, they found a destroyed home where a family of three was sheltering nearby.
The woman, a seamstress, had lost her sewing machine and could no longer work.
